Occre's Mississippi is a highly detailed wooden model inspired by the iconic paddle steamers of 19th-century America. With its distinctive stern paddlewheel, ornate smokestacks, carved railings and multi-deck superstructure, the finished model makes a spectacular display piece.
The kit includes accurately scaled furnishings for the cabins and saloons, including benches, beds, chairs, gaming tables and even a piano. Additional details such as wooden barrels, brass chains and a revolving paddlewheel bring the vessel to life, while the steam engine is represented as a non-working model.
With 1,702 parts and an estimated build time of approximately 650 hours, this is an absorbing long-term project for experienced wooden ship modellers. Laser-cut wooden components, detailed fittings and traditional construction techniques combine to create a rewarding and impressive finished model.

HISTORY:
Mississippi paddle steamers became an iconic feature of American river travel during the 19th century. Their shallow-draught hulls allowed them to navigate inland waterways, transporting passengers, agricultural produce and other goods between towns and cities along the Mississippi River and its tributaries.
Powered by steam engines driving large paddlewheels, these vessels transformed transport and commerce along America's great rivers. Their distinctive appearance, with towering smokestacks, ornate passenger decks and impressive wooden superstructures, became closely associated with the prosperity and excitement of the riverboat era.
Many paddle steamers offered comfortable passenger accommodation, with elegant saloons, dining areas and private cabins. Some even featured gaming tables and musical entertainment, making the journey itself an important part of the experience.
Although railways gradually reduced the importance of commercial river transport, paddle steamers continued operating into the 20th century. Today, they remain enduring symbols of the history and romance of the American Mississippi.
