Rather than modelling the complete ship, Occre's 1/90 scale kit concentrates on a section around the mainmast, revealing the decks, guns, internal structure and towering rig in impressive detail.
ABOUT THE KIT:
This unusual display model recreates a cross section through the mainmast area of the Spanish warship Santísima Trinidad. Its cutaway design provides a fascinating view through the vessel's multiple decks, allowing details normally hidden inside a completed hull to remain visible.
The finished model measures 90mm long, 415mm wide and an impressive 876mm high. Despite its narrow cross-section format, the kit contains 1,660 parts and is estimated by Occre to take approximately 150 hours to complete.
Construction uses fine hardwoods selected for the different structural and visible elements, together with precision laser-cut wooden sheets. High-precision photo-etched brass provides finer details, while Zamak castings are used for small fittings and other detailed components.
Occre rates the model as Intermediate / Level 2, making it a substantial project for modellers with some previous experience. A basic display stand and photo-etched brass nameplate are included for presenting the completed model.

HISTORY:
Santísima Trinidad was built at Havana, Cuba, and launched on 2nd March 1769. One of the largest and most heavily armed warships of her era, she became particularly famous after later modifications gave her four gun decks and an armament that reached as many as 140 guns.
The enormous Spanish ship served through several of the major naval conflicts of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Her size, distinctive appearance and exceptional armament earned her a formidable reputation and made her one of the most recognisable ships in the Spanish fleet.
Santísima Trinidad's final action came at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21st October 1805. Serving in the combined Franco-Spanish fleet, she came under intense attack from British warships and was eventually dismasted and forced to surrender after suffering severe damage and heavy casualties.
The British attempted to take the captured vessel to Gibraltar, but the badly damaged Santísima Trinidad could not survive the storm that followed the battle. She sank several days after Trafalgar, bringing the career of one of the most celebrated Spanish warships of the Age of Sail to an end.
