Occre 1/200 Scale Prinz Eugen Heavy Cruiser Model Kit
From her dramatic sortie alongside Bismarck to her extraordinary survival of two post-war nuclear tests, Prinz Eugen had one of the most remarkable careers of any German warship of the Second World War. Occre's enormous 1/200 scale wooden kit recreates the Admiral Hipper-class heavy cruiser with over 4,000 parts, intricate photo-etched detailing and a finished length of 1070mm.
ABOUT THE KIT:
Occre's Prinz Eugen is a highly detailed 1/200 scale model of the famous German heavy cruiser. The completed model measures 1070mm long, 175mm wide and 290mm high, creating an imposing display piece packed with fine structural and deck detail.
The kit contains 4,003 parts and combines fine hardwoods with precision laser-cut wooden sheets. High-precision photo-etched brass is used for the finest details, while Zamak castings reproduce smaller fittings and equipment throughout the vessel.
Unlike Occre's traditional sailing ship kits, the focus here is on the complex superstructure, armament and equipment of a Second World War heavy cruiser. The model's large 1/200 scale allows the distinctive towers, gun turrets, deck fittings and other features of Prinz Eugen to be reproduced in considerable detail.
A basic display stand and photo-etched brass nameplate are included. Construction is supported by scale plans, instructions in five languages, high-definition step-by-step photographs, a detailed parts list, identification sheet and a complete series of step-by-step video tutorials.
Occre rates Prinz Eugen as Advanced / Level 3, with an estimated assembly time of approximately 1,200 hours. Its 4,003 components and intricate detailing make this an extensive long-term project for experienced model builders.

HISTORY:
Prinz Eugen was an Admiral Hipper-class heavy cruiser built for Germany's Kriegsmarine. Laid down in 1936, launched in August 1938 and commissioned in August 1940, she was the third of five ships of the class and was named after Prince Eugene of Savoy.
Her best-known wartime operation came in May 1941, when Prinz Eugen sailed into the Atlantic alongside the battleship Bismarck as part of Operation Rheinübung. On 24th May, the two German ships encountered HMS Hood and HMS Prince of Wales in the Battle of the Denmark Strait. Hood was destroyed during the engagement, while Prinz Eugen subsequently separated from Bismarck and continued into the Atlantic before eventually returning to occupied France.
In February 1942, Prinz Eugen joined the battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau in Operation Cerberus, better known as the Channel Dash. The three major German warships made a daring daylight passage from Brest through the English Channel to German waters.
Prinz Eugen later served extensively in the Baltic, providing naval gunfire support during the closing stages of the war. She survived the conflict and was surrendered to Allied forces in 1945 before being allocated to the United States as a war prize.
In 1946, the cruiser was taken to Bikini Atoll and used as a target during Operation Crossroads, a series of nuclear weapon tests. Remarkably, Prinz Eugen survived both the Able and Baker explosions, although she was left contaminated and damaged.
The ship was subsequently towed to Kwajalein Atoll, where progressive flooding caused her to capsize and sink in December 1946. Her wreck remains there today, with part of the upturned stern and propeller assembly still visible above the water.
