Occre 1/45 Scale Palamos Fishing Boat Model Kit
A charming recreation of the traditional working boats once seen throughout Spain's Mediterranean fishing ports, Palamos is an ideal introduction to wooden ship modelling. Occre's 1/45 scale kit combines a plank-on-frame hull with detailed fittings, sails and rigging in a manageable 410mm long model designed specifically with beginner builders in mind.
ABOUT THE KIT:
Occre's Palamos represents the traditional hand-built inshore fishing boats commonly found along the Spanish Mediterranean coast. Their versatile hulls were well suited to local coastal conditions, carrying fishermen out from small ports and boatyards for the day's catch.
The kit contains 1,067 parts and uses fine hardwoods for its structure, planking and visible finishes. Precision laser-cut wooden sheets provide accurately shaped components, complemented by photo-etched brass details and small fittings cast in Zamak.
Cotton is used for the sails, rigging threads and other textile elements. The completed model measures 410mm long, 120mm wide and 275mm high, giving it a relatively compact finished size while still providing plenty of traditional boat-building detail.
Occre rates Palamos as Beginner / Level 1, with an estimated assembly time of approximately 120 hours. Designed as an accessible first wooden boat project, it provides an opportunity to learn fundamental techniques including frame construction, hull planking, working with wooden fittings and completing a sailing rig.

HISTORY:
Palamos is not a model of one particular historic vessel, but represents the traditional inshore fishing boats that were once a familiar sight along Spain's Mediterranean coastline.
The model takes its name from Palamós, an important fishing port on the Costa Brava in Catalonia. For generations, small locally built boats formed an essential part of everyday life in communities such as Palamós, leaving harbour to work the nearby coastal waters before returning with their catch for sale at the local fish auction.
These practical vessels were traditionally constructed by the numerous small boatyards found along the Spanish coast. Their multipurpose hulls were designed to suit the conditions of the Mediterranean and the everyday requirements of local fishermen rather than for long-distance voyages.
Occre's Palamos captures the character of these working craft and the traditional maritime industry they represent – not a famous warship or record-breaking vessel, but the type of boat upon which generations of Mediterranean fishing communities depended.
