Occre 1/75 Scale HMS Terror Model Kit
Discover the extraordinary story of HMS Terror with this detailed 1/75 scale wooden model ship kit from Occre. Originally built as a Royal Navy bomb vessel before becoming one of Britain's most famous polar exploration ships, HMS Terror is recreated in a 3,154-part kit featuring traditional wooden construction, intricate fittings and a full set of sails and rigging.
ABOUT THE KIT:
Occre's HMS Terror captures the vessel as she appeared during her Arctic exploration career, with a reinforced hull, distinctive deck layout and three-masted sailing rig. The finished model measures 67.6cm in length and offers an absorbing project for modellers interested in naval history and the mystery of the Franklin expedition.
The kit combines laser-cut wooden components with fine hardwoods, photo-etched brass and cast metal fittings. Hand-sewn cotton sails and rigging threads of different thicknesses complete the vessel's appearance.
With an estimated build time of 480 hours, HMS Terror is a substantial project for intermediate-level modellers. Step-by-step photographic instructions, scale plans and supporting video tutorials guide you through construction, while the included display stand and nameplate provide the finishing touches.

HISTORY:
Launched in 1813, HMS Terror was originally built for the Royal Navy as a bomb vessel, designed to withstand the recoil of heavy mortars. She served during the War of 1812 and took part in the bombardment of Fort McHenry at Baltimore in September 1814, the battle that inspired Francis Scott Key to write the words that would become the United States national anthem.
Her exceptionally strong hull later made her suitable for polar exploration. HMS Terror joined several Arctic and Antarctic expeditions, including George Back's Arctic voyage of 1836–1837 and James Clark Ross's Antarctic expedition of 1839–1843, during which she sailed alongside HMS Erebus.
In 1845, Terror and Erebus departed Britain under the command of Sir John Franklin on an expedition to complete the Northwest Passage. Both vessels were equipped with auxiliary steam engines to assist their progress through Arctic waters. The ships became trapped in ice, and all 129 members of the expedition ultimately perished.
The fate of the Franklin expedition remained one of maritime history's great mysteries for more than 160 years. HMS Erebus was discovered in 2014, followed by HMS Terror in September 2016 in Terror Bay, off King William Island in the Canadian Arctic. The remarkably well-preserved wreck has provided researchers with valuable new evidence about the expedition's final years.
