The kit combines traditional plank-on-frame construction with precision laser-cut wooden components, fine hardwoods, photo-etched brass and cast metal fittings. Cotton sails and rigging materials complete the vessel's appearance, while the included display base and nameplate provide the finishing touches.

HISTORY:
Launched in 1826, HMS Erebus was originally built for the Royal Navy as a bomb vessel, designed with a particularly strong hull to withstand the recoil of heavy mortars. Her robust construction later made her suitable for the demanding conditions of polar exploration.
Between 1839 and 1843, Erebus served alongside HMS Terror during Sir James Clark Ross's Antarctic expedition. The two ships explored previously uncharted waters, contributing to major geographical and scientific discoveries. The Antarctic volcano Mount Erebus was named after the vessel.
In May 1845, Erebus and Terror departed Britain under the command of Sir John Franklin, tasked with completing the Northwest Passage through the Canadian Arctic. Both vessels had been specially reinforced and fitted with auxiliary steam engines to assist their progress through icy waters.
The expedition became trapped in sea ice, and all 129 men aboard the two ships ultimately perished. Despite extensive searches, the vessels remained missing for more than 160 years, making the Franklin expedition one of maritime history's most enduring mysteries.
In September 2014, the wreck of HMS Erebus was discovered in the Canadian Arctic, followed by HMS Terror in 2016. The discoveries, informed by Inuit knowledge and oral history, have provided researchers with valuable new evidence about the expedition's final years.
