Occre 1/85 Scale Diana Spanish Frigate Model Kit
Fast, elegant and heavily armed, Diana was one of the celebrated Mahonesa-class frigates built for the Spanish Navy at the end of the 18th century. Occre's substantial 1/85 scale kit recreates this historic frigate with an intricately detailed wooden hull, extensive deck fittings, full sailing rig and fine metal components, producing an impressive finished model measuring 850mm long.
ABOUT THE KIT:
Occre's Diana is a highly detailed wooden model of the Spanish frigate launched at Mahón in 1792. At 1/85 scale, the completed ship measures 850mm long, 360mm wide and 635mm high.
The kit contains 4,542 parts and uses fine hardwoods selected according to the requirements of the structure, planking and visible finishes. Precision laser-cut wooden sheets provide accurately shaped components, while high-detail photo-etched brass and Zamak cast fittings reproduce many of the ship's smaller features.
Cotton is used for the sails, rigging threads of different thicknesses and other textile details, allowing Diana's extensive masts, yards and rigging to become a major feature of the finished model.
Occre rates Diana as an Intermediate Level 2 kit with an estimated assembly time of approximately 550 hours. The combination of a large wooden hull, thousands of individual components and an elaborate sailing rig makes it a rewarding long-term project for modellers with previous wooden ship-building experience.

HISTORY:
Diana was launched at Mahón on the island of Menorca on 10th March 1792. She was one of six frigates constructed there that became known as the Mahonesa class.
Diana proved particularly successful during her trials, outperforming the frigate Soledad, which had previously been regarded as one of the Spanish Navy's finest sailing frigates. Her performance was such that subsequent frigates were built following her plans.
During a service career spanning 41 years, Diana operated on both sides of the Atlantic. She took part in the war against France along the Catalan coast and was later based at Cádiz during the Peninsular War.
Diana subsequently served as part of the Spanish naval forces stationed at Havana. From there she participated in operations against privateers in the Antilles and completed several Atlantic crossings.
After more than four decades of service, Diana was finally broken up at the naval arsenal in Cartagena in 1833.
