Occre's Apóstol Felipe captures the distinctive appearance of a Spanish treasure galleon from the reign of King Felipe IV. Built to transport valuable cargo across the Atlantic, vessels of this type combined substantial carrying capacity with the armament needed to defend themselves against enemy ships and privateers.
The model features traditional wooden ship construction, with precision laser-cut components and fine hardwoods selected for the structure, hull planking, decking and visible finishes. Photo-etched brass provides delicate decorative details, while Zamak castings reproduce cannons, anchors and other fittings.
Sewn cotton sails and rigging threads in different thicknesses are included to complete the vessel's impressive sailing rig. A basic display stand and photo-etched brass nameplate provide the finishing touches.

HISTORY:
Apóstol Felipe was one of six galleons built by Martín de Arana for King Felipe IV of Spain. She belonged to the Spanish treasure fleet, a network of heavily protected vessels responsible for transporting valuable goods and precious metals between Spain and its overseas territories.
The galleons operated along the Carrera de Indias, the maritime trade routes connecting Spain with the Americas. Their cargoes could include silver, gold and other valuable goods, making them attractive targets for enemy warships and privateers.
Apóstol Felipe made her first voyage as part of the galleon fleet in 1629, carrying treasure back to Spain. She subsequently served as an admiral's vessel in the Armada de la Guarda until 1633.
Her later service included participation in Spanish military operations connected with the recovery of Pernambuco in Brazil, as well as the transport of troops and money to Flanders. She also took part in the Battle of the Downs in 1639, when a Spanish fleet was attacked by Dutch naval forces off the English coast.
Occre's model commemorates this historic vessel and the important role played by Spanish galleons in maritime trade and naval warfare during the 17th century.
