Occre's detailed 1/86 scale wooden model recreates this formidable first-rate warship, with 3,608 parts and a finished length of 83cm. An ambitious project for experienced ship modellers, it combines traditional wooden construction with intricate decorative work and an extensive sailing rig.
ABOUT THE KIT:
Occre's San Felipe recreates the celebrated Spanish warship built during the reign of King Felipe V. Her impressive three-deck hull, numerous gunports, ornate stern galleries and elaborate masts and rigging make her a striking addition to any collection of historic sailing ships.
The kit features traditional plank-on-frame construction, with precision laser-cut wooden components and fine hardwoods selected for the structure, hull planking, decking and visible finishes. Photo-etched brass provides delicate decorative details, while Zamak castings reproduce the cannons, anchors and other deck fittings.
A full set of sails and rigging materials is included to complete the vessel's distinctive appearance. The kit also contains a basic display base and photo-etched brass nameplate, providing a simple way to present the completed model.
With 3,608 parts and an estimated build time of approximately 900 hours, San Felipe is rated Advanced / Level 3 by Occre. Detailed photographic instructions, multilingual assembly guidance and step-by-step video tutorials support modellers throughout this substantial project.

HISTORY:
San Felipe was a Spanish first-rate ship of the line built during the reign of Felipe V, the first Bourbon king of Spain. Her name is sometimes confused with those of other Spanish warships, including El Real and Real Felipe.
Built in 1716 at the Catalan shipyard of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, San Felipe was constructed according to the shipbuilding proportions developed by Antonio Gaztañeta. She entered Spanish naval service in 1717, carrying an armament of 108 cannons.
Her construction reflected the considerable resources required to build a first-rate warship. The hull featured substantial internal and external planking, with oak used extensively for strength and durability. Other components were made from elm and pine.
Ships of this size were designed to form the most powerful part of a battle fleet. Their multiple gun decks allowed them to carry heavy armament, while their imposing hulls and large crews made them formidable opponents in naval engagements.
San Felipe represents an important period in Spanish naval development, when the Bourbon monarchy sought to strengthen and modernise its fleet through improved shipbuilding techniques and heavily armed ships of the line.
