Amati's Robert E. Lee recreates the elegant multi-deck steamboat with its twin smokestacks, paddlewheels and intricate decorative details. The kit features a pre-built wooden hull, laser-cut decks, wooden planking and a selection of wood and metal fittings, allowing modellers to concentrate on constructing the vessel's distinctive superstructure.
The updated 2024 edition includes improved full-colour assembly instructions and a laser-cut wooden staircase for greater accuracy and a more realistic finish. Photo-etched brass railings, rigging thread and adhesive flags add the finishing touches, while six construction plans provide detailed guidance throughout the build.

HISTORY:
Built in 1866, the Robert E. Lee was a Mississippi River steamboat named after Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Operating between New Orleans and St. Louis, the vessel transported passengers and cargo along one of America's most important commercial waterways.
The steamboat became particularly famous in June 1870, when it competed against the Natchez in a race from New Orleans to St. Louis. The Robert E. Lee completed the journey in just 3 days, 18 hours and 14 minutes, winning the race and establishing a celebrated record.
The competition attracted widespread public attention and became one of the best-known events in American riverboat history. The Robert E. Lee remains closely associated with the era of Mississippi paddle steamers, when steam-powered vessels played a vital role in transporting people and goods across the United States.
