The Robert E Lee or the Monarch of the Mississippi, was a steamboat built in New Albany, Indiana in 1866. The hull was designed by DeWitt Hill. It was named for Robert E. Lee, General-in-Chief of the Confederate States of America, and the steamboat gained its greatest fame for racing and beating the then-current speed record holder, Natchez, in an 1870 steamboat race.

Amati's historic 19th century paddlewheeler kit is exceptionally realistic. The hull is solid pine, and many other wooden parts are pre-cut birch. The superstructure of the Amati Robert E Lee is a modeller's delight with its pilot house, cabins, machine turned smokestacks and boilers.
A sheet of photo-etched brass parts gives your model eye catching precision and detail. White metal windows, doors, paddle wheels, lifeboats and anchors are included, and there's a generous supply of brass and copper fittings.
Deck and cabin walls are planked in walnut and basswood.
Six giant sheets of plans plus an instruction manual help to make building easier.
Please Note : Base board and brass pedestals are NOT included.
The paint sets for these kits are historically accurate colours that have been specially formulated for model ships. They are high quality acrylic based paints that can be thinned with water, thinner or alcohol. They clean up easily with water, making them ideal for airbrush use. Brushed or sprayed, paints dry flat with good grain structure and a smooth finish. The colors contained in each paint set are based on the colours shown in the picture of the model. 18ml bottles
