Occre 1/65 Scale Aurora Brig Model Kit
With her elegant two-masted rig and classic 19th-century lines, Aurora captures the appearance of the brigs that carried goods and passengers between Spain and the Americas. Occre's detailed 1/65 scale wooden kit features a double-planked hull, pre-sewn sails and extensive deck and rigging detail, producing an impressive finished model measuring 682mm long.
ABOUT THE KIT:
Occre's Aurora represents a traditional brig of the type widely used on transatlantic routes during the 19th and early 20th centuries. At 1/65 scale, the completed model measures 682mm long, 200mm wide and 483mm high.
The model is constructed around laser-cut wooden components with a double-planked hull. Its fittings include ready-to-use boxwood blocks and deadeyes, a cast metal lifeboat, blackened metal anchors, mast caps and ship's wheel, together with brass nails, stanchions, eyebolts, belaying pins and numerous smaller detail parts.
Four different diameters of rigging line are supplied for recreating Aurora's extensive standing and running rigging. A complete set of pre-sewn sails and a silk-screened flag are also included, completing the characteristic two-masted brig rig.
Occre rates Aurora as Medium difficulty. With 2,289 individual parts and an estimated construction time of approximately 170 hours, it provides a detailed project for modellers ready to progress beyond introductory wooden ship kits.

HISTORY:
Aurora represents a brig of the type used during the 19th and early 20th centuries, rather than a specifically documented historical vessel. During this period, maritime traffic between Spain and its overseas territories played an important role in carrying people and goods across the Atlantic.
Brigs were two-masted sailing vessels with square rigging on both masts. Their combination of speed, manoeuvrability and useful cargo capacity made them versatile ships for both commercial and naval service.
Occre associates Aurora particularly with voyages between Spain and the Americas, where vessels of this type could take advantage of the relatively constant winds encountered on established Atlantic sailing routes.
Aurora therefore represents the wider maritime trade of the period rather than the career of one famous ship, capturing the appearance and rigging of the working brigs that were once a familiar sight on long-distance commercial routes.
