The yacht that gave the America's Cup its name, America changed competitive sailing history with her famous victory around the Isle of Wight in 1851. Occre's 1/75 scale wooden model captures her distinctive schooner profile, elegant hull and expansive sailing rig in a detailed 1,135-part kit.
ABOUT THE KIT:
Occre's America 1851 recreates the celebrated racing schooner at 1/75 scale, producing a finished model measuring 540mm long, 97mm wide and 460mm high. The kit combines traditional wooden ship modelling with precision-cut components and finely detailed metal fittings.
A selection of fine hardwoods is used throughout the model, with different species chosen for structural components, hull planking and visible finishes. Laser-cut wooden sheets provide accurate components, while high-precision photo-etched brass and cast Zamak fittings reproduce the yacht's finer details.
Cotton sails and rigging threads of different thicknesses are supplied to recreate America's distinctive sail plan. The kit also includes a basic display stand and a photo-etched brass nameplate bearing the ship's name.
With 1,135 individual parts and an estimated construction time of approximately 120 hours, Occre rates America as Intermediate / Level 2. Detailed instructions, HD assembly photographs, scale plans, a comprehensive parts list and step-by-step video tutorials provide support throughout the build.

HISTORY:
America was a racing schooner designed by James and George Steers and launched in New York in 1851. Built for a syndicate of members of the New York Yacht Club, her innovative hull and impressive speed were intended to demonstrate the capabilities of American yacht design against Europe's finest vessels.
In the summer of 1851, America crossed the Atlantic to England and entered a race organised by the Royal Yacht Squadron around the Isle of Wight. Competing against British yachts for the £100 Cup, she crossed the finish line first on 22nd August 1851.
The trophy was subsequently taken back to the United States and, in 1857, was donated to the New York Yacht Club under a Deed of Gift establishing it as a perpetual international sailing challenge. The trophy became known as the America's Cup in honour of the schooner that had originally won it.
America herself had a varied career after her famous victory, passing through several owners and eventually returning to the United States. During the American Civil War she served with the Union Navy before later returning to private ownership.
Although the original yacht no longer survives, her name lives on through the America's Cup, making America one of the most historically significant racing yachts ever built.
