ABOUT THE KIT:
Mantua Models' HMS Victory recreates the Royal Navy's celebrated first-rate ship of the line, best known for her role as Admiral Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
The kit features traditional plank-on-frame hull construction, with laser-cut plywood sections for accurate assembly and walnut or limewood strips for the hull planking. Wooden masts and spars, cast metal components, brass and walnut fittings, and etched wooden details help reproduce the distinctive appearance of the historic warship.
Rigging cord and a silk flag complete the model, while building plans and English instructions guide you through construction. At approximately 500mm long, this version offers the character and detail of HMS Victory in a more manageable size than larger-scale wooden ship kits.

HISTORY:
HMS Victory is one of the most celebrated warships in British naval history. Built at Chatham Dockyard and launched on 7th May 1765, she was designed as a first-rate ship of the line, carrying more than 100 guns across three gun decks.
Victory entered active service in 1778 and served during the American War of Independence, the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars. She took part in several major naval engagements, including the Battle of Cape St Vincent in 1797.
Her most famous role came on 21st October 1805, when she served as Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar. Leading the British weather column into battle, Victory broke through the combined French and Spanish fleet before becoming heavily engaged with the French warship Redoutable.
Nelson was mortally wounded during the fighting, but the British fleet achieved a decisive victory. The Battle of Trafalgar helped secure Britain's naval supremacy during the Napoleonic Wars and established Victory's enduring place in maritime history.
After her frontline service ended in 1812, Victory remained at Portsmouth, fulfilling a variety of naval and ceremonial duties. In 1922, she was moved into No. 2 Dry Dock at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard for preservation and restoration.
Today, HMS Victory remains a commissioned Royal Navy warship and is preserved at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, where visitors can explore the vessel and discover the story of Nelson's final battle.
