Billing Boats 1/50 Scale St Canute Tug Model Kit

With the purposeful lines of a working harbour tug and the added character of an icebreaker, St Canute makes an appealing subject for a traditional wooden model. Billing Boats' 1/50 scale kit uses plank-on-frame construction and combines laser-cut wooden components with detailed fittings, rigging and running gear to produce a finished model measuring 560mm long.

ABOUT THE KIT:

This Billing Boats kit recreates St Canute, originally named St. Knud, a Danish tugboat and icebreaker built in 1931. At 1/50 scale, the completed model measures 560mm long, 160mm wide and 420mm high.

The hull is constructed using traditional plank-on-frame techniques, with laser-cut plywood components supplied for the keel and frames. Wooden components are also used for the decks and superstructure, while the hull and deck fittings are produced from a mixture of wood, brass and plastic.

Rigging cord in various sizes is supplied along with a propeller shaft, rudder and propeller. These working-vessel details help reproduce the appearance and equipment of the original harbour tug.

Full-size plan sheets and an instruction manual are included to guide construction. Billing Boats rates St Canute as Advanced Beginner, making it suitable for modellers who have some previous experience and are ready to progress to a more involved plank-on-frame project.

HISTORY:

St Canute was built in 1931 at the Frederikshavn Shipyard in Denmark and originally sailed under the Danish name St. Knud.

The vessel was designed to serve as both a tugboat and an icebreaker and spent many years working in Odense harbour. This combination of roles made her a practical working vessel, capable of assisting other ships around the harbour while also helping to keep routes navigable during icy conditions.

The full-size St Canute measured approximately 28 metres long and 7.6 metres wide, with a draught of 3.8 metres. Billing Boats' model captures the sturdy proportions and characteristic appearance of this Danish working tug at 1/50 scale.
