The model uses traditional plank-on-frame wooden construction, with hull and deck fittings supplied to add detail throughout the vessel. The completed model measures 860mm long, 210mm wide and 450mm high, making it an imposing display piece.
The kit is supplied with full-size plans and illustrated step-by-step instructions, while Billing Boats also provides a detailed photographic construction manual to help guide the modeller through the build.

HISTORY:
The Oseberg ship is an exceptionally well-preserved Viking vessel discovered in 1903 at Oseberg in Vestfold, Norway. Hidden beneath a burial mound, the ship had rested in blue clay beneath layers of turf and stone for around a thousand years.
The vessel was built in Norway during the early 9th century and was later used as the centrepiece of an elaborate burial. The burial chamber contained the remains of two women alongside an extraordinary collection of objects, including carved wooden artefacts, sledges, a wagon and other equipment.
At approximately 21.5 metres long, the original Oseberg ship had a shallow hull, a single mast and positions for 30 oars. Although capable of sailing, its relatively light construction and low freeboard suggest that it was better suited to sheltered coastal waters than demanding open-sea voyages.
The ship is particularly famous for its elaborate carved decoration. Its bow and stern terminate in elegant spiralling forms decorated with intricate animal carvings, demonstrating the exceptional craftsmanship of Viking Age woodworkers.
Following excavation, the surviving timbers were carefully conserved and reconstructed. The original Oseberg ship can now be seen at the Museum of the Viking Age in Oslo and remains one of the most important archaeological discoveries from the Viking period.
