Amati 1/64 Scale HM Brig Badger Model Kit
Best remembered as the first vessel commanded by Horatio Nelson, HM Badger represents an important early chapter in the career of Britain's most famous naval officer. This 1/64 scale Victory Models by Amati kit combines double wooden planking, laser-cut components, photo-etched brass and extensive rigging detail, producing an impressive finished model measuring 590mm long.
ABOUT THE KIT:
Designed by Victory Models and produced by Amati, HM Badger recreates the small Royal Navy brig associated with the young Horatio Nelson. At 1/64 scale, the completed model measures 590mm long, 236mm wide and 520mm high.
The hull features double planking over precision laser-cut wooden components, providing a strong foundation for the model while allowing a finely finished outer surface. Wooden and metal fittings are supplied throughout, complemented by finely detailed photo-etched brass decorations.
Rigging threads are included to reproduce Badger's characteristic two-masted brig rig, while a self-adhesive cloth flag provides a finishing touch. Once complete, the model can be presented on the included MDF display base with two brass pedestals.
Construction is supported by a detailed instruction booklet and five construction plans, guiding the modeller through the hull, fittings and rigging of this detailed wooden ship project.

HISTORY:
HM Badger was a small Royal Navy brig employed during the late 18th century, a period in which vessels of her type performed important duties including patrols, convoy escort and coastal operations.
Badger is particularly significant for her association with Horatio Nelson. In December 1778, the young Nelson was appointed commander of the vessel, giving him his first independent naval command and an important early opportunity to demonstrate his abilities as an officer.
During Nelson's command, Badger operated in the Caribbean. One notable episode occurred at Montego Bay in June 1779, when HMS Glasgow caught fire. Badger's boats and crew joined the rescue effort, helping to remove men from the burning vessel before Glasgow was destroyed.
Nelson's time aboard Badger was relatively brief. In 1779 he was promoted to post-captain and transferred to the 28-gun frigate HMS Hinchinbroke, continuing the career that would ultimately make him one of Britain's most celebrated naval commanders.
Badger herself remained in Royal Navy service until 1783, when she was sold out of service.
