HISTORY:

Designed by Professor Willy Messerschmitt, the Bf 109 first flew in 1935 and entered Luftwaffe service in 1937 after winning a design competition thanks to its outstanding speed and agility. Early variants saw action during the Spanish Civil War before playing a major role in the opening campaigns of the Second World War.

The Bf 109 E introduced the powerful Daimler-Benz DB601 engine and became one of the Luftwaffe's most recognisable fighters during the Battle of Britain, where it faced RAF Spitfires and Hurricanes. Further refinements led to the more aerodynamic Bf 109 F, offering improved performance and extended range.

The most widely produced version was the Bf 109 G "Gustav", powered by the DB605 engine and distinguished by its characteristic bulged engine cowlings. With over 12,000 built, it served across Europe, North Africa and the Eastern Front, where it became one of the Luftwaffe's most successful fighter aircraft.
