HISTORY:
The Warrior is a British armoured infantry fighting vehicle developed by GKN Sankey during the 1980s and introduced into British Army service in 1987. Designed to transport infantry into combat while providing protection and direct fire support, it became an important part of Britain's armoured forces.
The vehicle is armed with a 30mm RARDEN cannon alongside a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun. Its combination of armour, mobility and firepower allowed it to carry troops across difficult terrain while providing support against a variety of ground targets.
During the Cold War, the British Army of the Rhine stationed Warriors in Germany. The vehicle subsequently saw operational service during the Gulf War and deployments in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Warrior received a number of upgrades during its service, including improvements to its armour and other systems. A more extensive modernisation programme, the Warrior Capability Sustainment Programme, was later pursued but ultimately cancelled as part of wider changes to the British Army's modernisation plans.
