Occre 1/75 Scale Endeavour America's Cup Yacht Model Kit

Sleek, elegant and built for speed, Endeavour was Britain's formidable challenger for the 1934 America's Cup. Occre's 1/75 scale wooden model captures the yacht's graceful racing lines and towering sail plan in a detailed kit containing 1,277 parts. At over 72cm tall when complete, it makes an impressive project for intermediate wooden ship modellers.

ABOUT THE KIT:

Occre's Endeavour recreates the famous J-Class racing yacht commissioned by British aviation pioneer and yachtsman Sir Thomas Sopwith. The model's slender hull, uncluttered deck and expansive sailing rig reflect the combination of elegance and performance that made the original yacht such an admired design.

The kit uses a selection of fine hardwoods, including mahogany, limewood and sapele, with precision laser-cut wooden sheets providing an accurate fit during construction. High-precision photo-etched brass components reproduce finer details, while Zamak cast metal fittings are used throughout the model.

Cotton is supplied for the sails and rigging, allowing the yacht's impressive sail plan to be recreated in full. A basic building stand and etched nameplate featuring the yacht's name are also included.

With 1,277 parts and an estimated build time of approximately 120 hours, Endeavour is rated Intermediate / Level 2 by Occre. Step-by-step HD photographs, full-scale plans, a detailed parts identification sheet and supporting video tutorials provide guidance throughout construction.

HISTORY:

Endeavour was designed and built in 1934 to challenge for the America's Cup, one of the world's oldest and most prestigious international sailing competitions. She was commissioned by British industrialist, aviation pioneer and keen yachtsman Sir Thomas Sopwith.

Built by Camper & Nicholsons at Gosport, Endeavour belonged to the spectacular J-Class of racing yachts. Sopwith drew upon his experience in aviation and brought a highly technical approach to the campaign, with the yacht incorporating advanced equipment and design ideas for the period.

Endeavour crossed the Atlantic to challenge the American defender Rainbow for the America's Cup off Newport, Rhode Island, in September 1934. The British yacht made an excellent start to the series, winning the first two races.

Rainbow recovered, however, and won the following four races to retain the America's Cup by four races to two. Despite the defeat, Endeavour's performance established her reputation as one of Britain's most successful and memorable challengers for the trophy.

After passing through several owners and narrowly avoiding being broken up, Endeavour underwent an extensive restoration during the 1980s. She returned to sailing and remains one of the most celebrated surviving J-Class yachts, admired for the graceful lines and performance that made her famous in 1934.
