The second, and last, of the Pennsylvania-class "super-dreadnought" battleships, the USS Arizona was built by, and for, the US Navy in the 1914. It was commissioned in 1916, though remained stateside during World War I. The Arizona was regularly used for training exercises, was sent to California in 1933 to provide aid for an earthquake that struck the Long Beach area, and was also featured in the 1935 film, Here Comes the Navy, starring Jimmy Cagney. She was transferred to Pearl Harbor in 1940, along with the rest of the Pacific Fleet, in an attempt at deterring Japanese imperialism. The morning of December 7, 1941, the Arizona was sunk during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The majority of her bulk still lies in Pearl Harbor, and a memorial to the USS Arizona and those who died during the attack was dedicated as the USS Arizona Memorial, May 30th, 1962.
